James Bond Attache Case

The James Bond Attache Case was released by a company called Multiple Products in 1965.

James Bond Attache Case This toy was the dream of every kid who wanted to be a spy - it came with a wide variety of weapons and gadgets and hidden secrets.

Its main item was a Luger pistol, with optional scope and silencer - not exactly a Walther PPK, but the type of exotic gun seen in many films and TV shows of the period. It fired rubber bullets at one's make-believe enemies. A knife and holster for the gun were also included.

Besides the codebook and decoder (which one would expect such a thing to have), also included were a fake passport, business cards, traveling papers, and even a large amount of play money, for the agent who needed cash for various expenses.

One of the best-remembered aspects of the toy was the secret locking mechanism - a kid had to turn the handles just right to open the thing, or it would 'explode' (actually, a cap would be fired), eliminating any snooping counter-agents or little sisters. This reflected a scene in the Bond film From Russia With Love, in which the hero was outfitted with just such a device.

Of all the espionage-related toys released during the spy craze of the 1960's, this is probably the most sought after. Near-mint examples, when found, can go for thousands of dollars; even partially complete examples (they are usually missing some of the rubber bullets, or the paper items) can cost several hundred.
